This morning I was looking for a photo I had taken of me in Mulder's office (I was standing in front of a green screen) back at the X-Files Expo in 1998. I had it saved on my old, old (last updated 2000) website over at Tripod.

Well, I discovered that Tripod finally killed it. It's kind of ironic, considering the new movie is coming out soon, and my little home on the net had been up for eight years without an update. *sigh*

I don't think my brother (the webmaster who made it for me) saved much of the info on it.

Back in 2005 I had the good idea to send a lot of my older fic to Gossamer, most of which had never made it there for whatever reason. In the old days a lot of my fic (they were written in rhyme, thus my net handle) went to a different Gossamer archive that has since ceased to operate, and I didn't want to lose stuff.

Back when I started fanfic in late 1997, I didn't have a computer. I had WebTV, which was this box you hooked up to your TV and a phone line in order to get on the net. Our family didn't have the money for a computer back then, so a $300 piece of equipment that let me get on Usenet and read stories and check e-mail was all I needed. And man, did I use that thing. I wore out two wireless keyboards, and when they implemented new technology on the service, I would be one of the first to get it sent to me to be tested. I didn't upgrade to a computer until 2004!

Anyway, WebTV didn't have storage ability, which means I don't have anything saved anywhere except Gossamer.

Luckily I was able to access the Internet Wayback Machine and save four rhymes I had written that I never sent to Gossamer, along with two original pieces of art I had on the old website. One rhyme is lost to the Internet ether, as are all my photos I took at the Expo in 1998, and the on-location X-Files photos I took when I was in vacation in California in 1999. Not a huge loss as I'm sure I have them around somewhere at home, but still.

It's a good thing I checked this morning. It makes me feel a little sad though, knowing that a piece of my fanfic history is gone.

I was up too late last night to write about Comic Con here in NY, so now that I'm more awake here's the full report.

I cropped the stuff that wasn't pertinent -- it was just stuff telling us who Duchovny and Anderson are, blah blah. The important parts of the press release are right here.

Carter and Spotnitz are going to tell us in the DVD extras why they picked these episodes and how they relate to the movie, and I'd be really interested in those conversations. I can't seem to see a correlation between them all, except for the fact that overall they're all pretty good episodes.

Yeah, so I bid on an autographed script from Nick Lea for the X-Files episode "Sleepless." It's a charity auction for a fellow actor suffering from cancer.

Interesting to note that it's autographed and personalized, which is pretty cool. If anyone else is bidding on stuff, note that most everything is in Canadian dollars, so US bidders save a little bit. But also be aware of the shipping rates -- they're high.

If I win, this will make up for the fact that someone stole the copy of my Ratboy in the Hat rhyme I wrote and had him autograph back in 1998 at the X-Files eXpo in New York City. Bitches. He even giggled when he signed it. Giggled!

I realize that many of us participate in multiple fandoms, and perhaps we as writers don't always have enough time to devote to long M/K fiction. Or maybe you're just looking for an outlet to share some sort pieces of fic. With the movie coming in July we're sure to see new fans, and I'd like to have a place for everyone to remember our favorite characters and pairing. That's why I created a drabble community.

I hope to encourage writers to share their drabbles, snippets, 100-word pieces, or anything short with the community. In turn, I'd hope members who join strictly to read would give prompts and feedback via comments.

I set up the community as strictly adult, so we can feel free to write whatever we want. I hate that I have to label it at all, but there you go.

I'd love it if people joined! Questions or suggestions can be sent to me in the comments here.

I just turned on my iPod in work and it started with Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye." That song brings me back to the early '90s, when I was working part-time in a movie theatre. We had a disc of songs handed down from corporate that would play in between shows, and "Last Goodybe" transports me to busy Saturday afternoons as I swept up popcorn and M&Ms that littered the auditorium floors. I've always loved this particular song, probably because Buckley's voice would float over the theatre sound system so perfectly.

I finally got around to watching the first episode of Torchwood, despite having downloaded it more than a week ago. I was sick, and then I was away for the weekend, and I didn't get around to it until last night. I have to say, I think James Marsters worked harder on his accent here than in the past and it was much improved. And after having watched the episode, I think the silly shit he was spouting in interviews about his girlfriend having to be on the set when he kissed John Barrowman did him a disservice. There was some nice chemistry there, and if he was uncomfortable in any way his professionalism made up for it.

TV rec: If you haven't seen Breaking Bad on cable network AMC yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. First of all, it's written by X-Files alum and wunderkind Vince Gilligan. If you know your X-Files, his name alone should send you scurrying to the show. It stars Bryan Cranston -- who was always very good in Malcolm in the Middle -- but he's a fantastic dramatic actor. The show is about a high school teacher, Walt (Cranston), who discovers he's dying of cancer and decides to team up with one of his former students who cooks meth. Cranston is excellent in his role, and the show is darkly funny. You can catch episodes 1 and 2 again on Sunday, February 3 at 10 p.m. est, right after the Super Bowl. At least put them on your DVR, and then keep up with new episodes Sundays at 10.

And, upon reading some of the comments at the comm, I get a real sense of tween 'Shipper squee that I'm not all that enthused about. I was in college when the series first came on, and X-Files will always be my favorite television show, ever. I love other shows (*kisses Oz, Torchwood, BSG, The Wire, classic SVU before the soap opera monkeys ruined it*) but XF always has been an obsession. Wait...OBSESSION. There, that needed some allcaps.

I'm not harshing the squee. Far from it. I look forward to Action!Mulder and Action!Scully on the big screens again, especially after all the hoops they had to jump through to make the film *coff*Chris Carter And His Lawsuit*coff*.

I mean, I love Mulder and Scully, don't get me wrong, but perhaps I have a broader view of the show because I was, y'know, not in middle school when the show began. I can see beyond the OMG M/S forevah!!111!!1 side of things, which some newer fans tend to miss. I enjoy the excitement, just not the teenagery aspects to the fandom. Does that make sense?

For a short time, Gillian Anderson will be hosting the new, revamped, Masterpiece Theatre.

Renamed as Masterpiece Classic, it will be hosted by Anderson through May. She starts January 13.

This is all inlaterdays fault.

A few weeks ago, foxestacado mentioned that over on the Television Without Pity boards they were doing recaps of all The X-Files episodes that were skipped by the usual recapper.

Since I had already written "Sleepless", "Duane Barry", and "Ascension," I humbly offered my services and sent those in.

Then inlaterdays was making me all Kryceky nostalgic this week, so I volunteered to write six more, Krycek fangirl that I am. Those will include "The Blessing Way/Paper Clip", "Apocrypha/Piper Maru", and "PatientX/The Red and the Black."

Other people already claimed his other eps, but DOOD, I get to go all slashy with "The Red and the Black"! Hee!

I was watching the Supernatural episode from two weeks ago online, the one with the ghost ship (the title of which I can't be arsed to look up because it was so boring I shut it off), and thought I recognized the Yellow House shooting location from back in Millennium days.

Turns out I was wrong, and this Millennium fan site told me so.

While there, I happened upon info on the new X-Files movie. Apparently it's being called "Done One" (heh) for casting purposes. The Millennium fan site linked to some casting info...no actors yet, but characters are listed.

After reading foxestacado's journal about two weeks ago, I discovered that some people in the Television Without Pity forum were writing recaps for all the X-Files episodes TWoP editor Jessica never got around to writing (which is a lot).

I had written three detailed TWoP-ish recaps for the first few episodes Krycek appeared in, "Sleepless," "Duane Barry," and "Ascension," but the website where they were stored went belly-up.

Luckily, I've been able to submit the recaps again, and they're now at the fabulous new Recapping the Adventures of Moose and Squirrel, a site designed by foxestacado.

Other TWoP users have submitted recaps, all written with humor and snark. You can find mine in Season 2, of course. X-Files fans are sure to get a kick out of reading them.

I literally spent an entire hour yesterday updating the X-Files Complete Collection product page for Big Dot Com with all the extras. I have all the seasons on the oldskool discs already (meaning the older fold-out sets), but my inner X-Phile screams for this set. Screams.

Just downloaded the new high-res DVD art yesterday from the Fox site. It's different than what you see on Amazon. I think they have an earlier image. Here ya go.

First, why do new mothers feel the need to bring their mewling infants into the office and stay all freaking afternoon? I'm trying to work, goddammit. I don't want to hear crying babies.

I got an early copy of Friday Night Lights (which debuts on DVD tomorrow), and I spent the entire weekend watching it. All 20 episodes, in two days. While I recommend the show (not for the football; for the amazing writing and performances), I don't recommend watching TV shows in marathon stretches like that. It's bad on the eyes.

Tomorrow, Heroes is out on DVD for the first time. Next week: The Office - Season 3, Nip/Tuck - Season 4, Prison Break - Season 2, 30 Rock - Season 1, The Black Donnellys - Complete, Robot Chicken - Season 2, Dirty Jobs - Volume 1, Desperate Housewives - Season 3, and Suze Orman's Women and Money. I threw Suze in there because 1) I think she has great advice and 2) did you know she loves girls? Hee.

(The whiny child just left after 5 hours. Huzzah. I can take my earplugs out now. Literally)

I'm bidding on another camera on eBay (the same one I lost last week), along with a naked Cigarette Smoking Man. I'm going to try to fix my Krycek (whose leg I broke. I play rough) using a CSM part. LOL!

Wow. I've been lazy in updating (and checking my e-mail; I need to do that tonight), but that's just because I've been busy in work this week. Stupid work! It keeps me from the pr0n!

Speaking of, one of my Oz friends, blackchaps, is in the middle of a WIP with Mulder/Skinner. She got permission from Xanthe to write in Xanthe's 24/7 universe.

What's the story about? I'll offer blackchaps's words on it:

"THIS IS BDSM. THIS IS NC-17+++++. THIS IS FULL OF SPANKEY. THIS HAS NO PLOT, AT ALL. AGAIN! BDSM!!! AGAIN, THIS IS MULDER/SKINNER!!."

I got an e-mail from YahooGroups telling me that someone wanted to join RATales, the Krycek-lovin' community I mod (yes, I still pay attention to it). I skipped on over to click "Approve," until I noticed that said applicant was 13! Thirteen! NOES! RATales is restricted to 17 and up because of teh Mulder/Krycek mansecks (among other things), so little girl from Norway, the Almighty Hammer of Rhyme Smites Thee with a Rejected!

Today I must extend my love (Scully: "Oh, is that what you were extending?" Heh, X-Files in-joke, sorry) to the man that first brought me to LJ, Nicholas Lea.

I've written more fan fiction about his character, Alex Krycek, than I have any other, so he holds a special place in my heart and always will.

On the series The X-Files, he was regularly leather-clad, sexy, dark and dangerous, and a complete mystery. We never got any information about who this man was, or what made him tick. His motivations were vague, but Nick Lea portrayed him as a man torn between two worlds -- the good and the bad, the dark and the light -- and that sense of gray made him irresistible. And in nine seasons, he only appeared in 23 episodes total, sometimes doing nothing more than lurking in the shadows wielding a gun.

Those of us who could see past his murky allegiances and questionable behavior got to experience a uniquely different character, because Alex fought for no one but himself. One man against the world, doing what he had to to survive. Who wouldn't want to identify with that? Besides, being sexy as fuck helped a lot too.

We never were sure why Alex did the things he did. Perhaps that's why he's perfectly suited to the world of fan fiction. We can do anything we want with him -- and we have. In the world of XF slash, Mulder and Krycek are a couple. It's especially interesting writing this pairing, because by canon standards they hate each other. That never deterred writers, though, that's for sure.

Anyway, I'm wishing Nicholas Lea a Happy Birthday today, because I wouldn't have had as much fun and enjoyment as I have writing his character (and fan fiction in general) if not for his amazing portrayal.
