Holy crap!
Did everyone hear about that awful, awful story out of Manitoba, Canada late yesterday? Some poor kid was stabbed and decapitated by the guy sitting next to him on a Greyhound bus!!! Jesus. Apparently the bus was bound for Winnipeg, and around 9 p.m. the bus was quiet and the kid -- described as an 18-20 year old aboriginal male (i.e. First Nations in Canada) -- was drifting off to sleep with headphones on when the insane guy next to him started stabbing him with a huge hunting knife.
I won't go into the rest of the details because they are incredibly horrific. Like, horror movie horrific. As in, don't read the story if you're going to be eating. Unbelievable.
They charged the killer this morning.
More news at the Globe and Mail here. Listen to the audio while you're there too for more information.

shocked
I don't even have words.
I cannot handle stuff like this! *tries not to puke*
Why do people do these things???
I really, really can't imagine dying like that. I keep thinking, if I was there, would I help him?
No, probably not. I'd be getting my ass out of there too. I don't think I can intercept a guy with a big Rambo knife from stabbing a poor innocent guy :(
I feel bad for that guy who wanted to try to help but couldn't get anyone to help him. But I think it was best that everyone just ran, because a huge guy with a hunting knife who then proceeded to hack the kid up tells me he was super crazy and super dangerous.

God, even if I would have ran too, if we got a group of people to help, we could have done something, I think. At least help the kid stop bleeding to death (although, if he was vicious enough, he would have died soon even with our help).
I really want to see how this story pans out. I want this guy to be either institutionalized or in jail for a very, very long time.
I like to think I am a peaceful person but enduring a long journey with *that* noise would drive most people to drink, drugs or violence.
Yes, it's awful. Sickening. Horrific. And no-one deserves to die, not even someone polluting the air with that horrible sound. But we live in societies where there are terrible problems, including anger-management and impulse-control, both of which seem to be lacking in a small (I hope only small) section of society.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the poor kid had decent headphones with no sound leakage and maybe the murderer was high on drugs, drunk or listening to voices.
I don't know. Hopefully, the details will emerge at the trial - but my theory is that the murderer was driven mad by *that odious, tinny sound* leaking out of headphones.
Added: having read the account provided at the link to the Globe and Mail, which is considerably more detailed than the BBC account, I tend towards the 'hearing voices' theory. Some of the killer's actions are way beyond being driven mad by noise. Horrible.
I wonder how long it will be before some crazed film producer wants to make a horror film about this incident . . . ::sigh::
