This brightens my day

A painting by the artist Lucian Freud (grandson to the famous psychiatrist) was purchased at Christie's this week for an astounding $33 million (£17 million pounds) dollars, the highest amount ever paid for a piece of work by a living artist.

The best part about this artsy-fartsy news?

It's a portrait of Sue Tilly, a benefits supervisor in London (link Not Safe For Work), sprawled on a couch, naked. That might not seem like news, but Ms. Tilly is a rather large woman.

Fat chicks rule!!! WHOO!

A larger image of the portrait is here at Gawker, and the image is completely Not Safe For Work. She's naked, duh

That brightened my mood when I saw it, as well. I felt like my fat ass was vindicated.

And in other fat girl news, the "fat chic" won America's Next Top Model last night. I don't make a habit of watching it, but I've been known to channel surf by it. I was curious, so I watched the end.
The fat chick won???? AWESOME! I never thought that would happen. I hope she actually gets work, unlike the rest of the past winners.

Hmm, now I need to go read about this at Television Without Pity.
I've been wondering what size she really is. They call her full-figured/plus-sized, but in the fashion industry that could be anything above a 10. She's round and curvy, though, unlike the rest of the skinny wenches.
That's awesome and the painting is gorgeous.

I'm a skinny chick but I admire the amply-endowed of both genders.

People are cool in their infinite variety.
Lucian is 85, and apparently he's painted this lady four times. It's amazing that someone paid that much for it.

I was reading in the Gawker comments that the commenter's art professor wished non-athletic non-20-somethings would pose, just for variety.

But shit, I could never do that. Besides, I have too many tattoos, LOL.
Tats are art. :-) I thought about posing for the art school when I was in college. I chickened out. Now, I kind of wish I had.
NOW I WANT PIX!

Tats are cool. I don't have any though.

I modeled for a photographer friend for awhile, but I am unremarkable. He's really good though.
I saw that on the BBC website and whooped for joy. She's one hell of a lady. I hope she gets part of the proceeds. ;)
Wow, that is so gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! Now that I look at the painting, I realize I know Freud. We studied his paintings at the Marie Walsh Art Foundation, when our professor was lecturing on how to paint "volume" in our paintings of our models. I painted a rather large model, but it turned out so badly (I completely had no control over colors at the time) that I painted over it when I got back from Colorado.
