Last week's birthday weekend photos
I get home too late at night during the week to spend time uploading photos, so I have to do it on the weekends. Here are the photos from my birthday weekend last week, where my girlfriend and I went to Rockefeller Plaza in New York City to see the tree. We also went to the Top of the Rock, which is the observation deck at the top of the building.
But before I get to that, I thought I'd show you the Oz-inspired birthday present she gave me, a silver dogtag inscribed with the immortal words of Tobias Beecher on it.

I had a hell of a time taking the photo where it wouldn't reflect right back into the camera.
Now, on to the New York City photos!

Here are a few shots of the window display at Saks Fifth Avenue, which is across the street.

And here's the light display on the Saks building, set in time to music. I couldn't get back any farther to get the whole building, and an MTA bus comes barreling through at one point, but you get the idea.
Way up there is Top of the Rock

On a clear day you can see forever...or into New Jersey, anyway. Taking photos at night is no easy task, especially when it's 20 degrees at the top of the building. You gave to hold really still to try to prevent the photos from being blurry. These were the best I could do.

The bright lights down below there are Times Square.

And here's the Empire State Building.

Shiny!!!Sparkly lights!!! Wheeeeeeeeee!!!
And Rhyme...that dog tag is so wonderful, on so many levels. I'm really happy for you.
Thanks for the nice comments!
And nothing beats New York at Christmastime... the lights/music at Lord and Taylor are beautiful...
The shots from Top of the Rock came out great...all the lights....*sigh*
Makes me *so* want to go there...it's been way too long...
Thanks for the great photos. They made me feel almost there, minus the cold.
The pictures make me want to go back so bad! I just loved the shots. Thank you so much for sharing them!
C'mon back! NYC in winter is so much better than any other time of the year.
And the photos are great! LOOK HOW BIG THAT TREE IS!!
THAT TREE WAS REALLY BIG. It's nice to look at, but I have to say, I'd rather see it still living and in the ground somewhere.
Have a good time in San Francisco -- I didn't like it very much, but maybe you will.
And I love your dog tag. I hope the two of you are very happy.

My family doesn't exchange gifts anymore, so this is the first time in years I've had to actually buy something for someone! It was a little stressful, LOL.
Your birthday present is beautiful.
Thanks!
And what a cool gift!
And your girlfriend has good taste - both in choosing you and for getting that lovely sentiment on the tag. I know you'll wear it proudly.
Oh, pssssh, go on. It's all the camera, really.

Awwwwww! I'll tell her you said so. :-)
P.S. Your girlfriend really knew the perfect present for you and you photographed it beautifully.
