Habby Birfday and an InsaneJournal link

Happy Birfday to [info]vestafour! I hope your coming year is filled with happiness, love, and good health!

In other news, InsaneJournal is having another permanent account sale, for only $35 (ETA Which comes with 300 userpics!). I went ahead and took advantage of this, mostly because I'm not too fond of what our new Russian Overlords have been saying.

It's been disturbing, to say the least, to read these vague posts about taste and decency and the new "Thought Police" standards they plan on implementing. What bothers me more is that they've provided absolutely no clear-cut answers.

LJ is remarkable in that you have almost instant access to your audience. You post something, someone asks a question, and you can answer it in virtually seconds. What the fuck is going on here that we can't get simple answers to our questions? And these questions are important, especially in light of the "taste and decency" comments, and comments about religion. GAH. It makes me angry.

I wish I could pick all of you up (Friends and regular readers alike) and stick everyone over at InsaneJournal. I know it will allow us more freedom, but until my audience moves, I'll only visit there on occasion. But I figured that for only $35 for a permanent account, it was worth it, even if I never use it. I don't mind giving money to uphold IJ's freedom.

I like LJ and all the bells and whistles it provides (even though I never bothered changing my layout because I don't...sorta...know how), but if this Big Brother, 1984, Thoughtpolice, crimethink-esque feeling continues, I'm taking my toys and going to IJ.

ETA 2: Does anyone know of an easy way to batch-save all my icons that I have here at LJ? I already know how to move everything over to IJ

Comments

I've got a mirror journal over at IJ- it's Pepper202 there, too, so feel free to friend me.
The HP fandom got hit with LJ's insane half assed answers and censorship, so most of us moved over there, at least with mirror journals(some moved completely and only use LJ for updating people to things on IJ).
Still- LJ seems to be more comfortable.
As for the icons- I have most of mine saved to the computer anyway, so I just uploaded there.
I friended you back in August when they had the big Strikethrough debacle.

Yeah, LJ is more comfortable. I'm still getting used to IJ.
The one thing that IJ doesn't do, is inform you when someone has friended you. Not everyone moved, but I friended like 30 people that had mirror journals a few weeks back.I am sure they friended back, but I wouldn't know it.
Hmm, true. LJ instituted that only recently, of course. The only way to know is to look at your user info under Also Friend Of. That's how I used to do it for LJ until they set up that new home page system as well as the e-mailing of notices.

I have a skeleton account over at Insane journal. I just don't have the time to maintain two journals right now.

But, like you, until all my flist makes the change...I'll continue to hang around here...
I like the freedoms they give us over there, and I figure $35 isn't a lot to have a journal forever (or until they go Nazi State as well).

Still, though, there's no reason to post over there if no one is reading.

Ooooh. That is so so tempting. One of the reasons I don't shift my posting elsewhere is because I have a paid account here, and I adore the paid features. (My friends are the Numero Uno reason, of course, but I'd still maintain something here for as long as ya'll are here.)

I think this is the first time in the long line of LJ debacles (even though I've always had back-up journals just in case) that I've really felt uncomfortable enough that I'm not enjoying posting here, and have been truly actively considering making real posts elsewhere.

Because, yeah, like you said, the "taste and decency" thought police stuff is really not what I signed up for.
Thanks for the info. I'm the same username over on IJ and I've just upgraded my account. It's pretty bare right now but I'm going to copy all my important stuff over to there as a backup.
I honestly want to know: what is the problem? (I had to preface that because I don't want to sound tetchy.) Does LJ delete entries if they're not sweet and good enough for them? I think I'm out of the loop here.

Birfday Greetings

Thanks Rhymephile for the birfday greetings. I got out of the hospital on my birthday which was fun.

Thanks for keeping me up on all the LJ issues. I'm not up to the switch yet but your info lets me know what prep I'll need to do. ****Hugs****
